Board of Directors

President
Dave Benson is the President of Poiesis and general director of the ensemble. He has a PhD in Sound Recording from McGill University. A Classically-trained singer, he sings regularly with the OSM choir, the choir at the Church of Saint Andrew and Saint Paul and many other ensembles in Montréaal.


Vice-President

Joanna Marsden is a founding member of Poiesis. She is a flautist who specializes in historical instruments and regularly performs with baroque music ensembles in the Netherlands and throughout North-America.


Secretary

Christophe Gauthier is the Vice-President of Poiesis. He is a harpsichordist who plays with ensembles including Arion, Studio de musique ancienne de Montréal, Ensemble Clavecin en concert, the Toronto Consort and Orchestre Métropolitain with maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin. He is the organist of the church St Stanislas de Kostka in Montréal.


Previous directors

Jason D’Aoust is a founding member of Poiesis and general director of the ensemble. He is a multidisciplinary researcher who has published on literature, music, and opera. He also studied vocal performance at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal with Marie Daveluy.

Mark Edwards is a founding member of Poiesis and artistic director of the ensemble. He was first prize winner in the 2012 Musica Antiqua Bruges International Harpsichord Competition, and is recognized for his captivating performances, bringing the listener “to new and unpredictable regions, using all of the resources of his instrument, […] of his virtuosity, and of his imagination” (La Libre Belgique). He is Assistant Professor of Harpsichord at Oberlin Conservatory.


Benoît Faucher is a freelance copywriter and previously worked at Cossette and the TAXI agency.


For the past thirty years, Claude Lapointe has taught and practiced neurolinguistic programming with musicians, artists, and business people. She studied stage direction at Ottawa University and has published an essay on André Brassard’s work (VLB, 1989).


Recipient of the Order of Canada, Suzie LeBlanc is early music vocal coach and artistic director of Cappella Antica at McGill University and the artistic director of Le Nouvel Opera.


Mirella Tarmure Vadean is actively engaged in the promotion and education of the arts, especially literature and music, as essential foundations of life. She holds an interdisciplinary PhD in Arts and Humanities (literature, philosophy, music) and is certified in philanthropic management.
