Poiesis is a baroque music ensemble that explores the potential of historical improvisation in its many forms in order to present engaging and exciting performances. The ensemble is based in Montreal, Quebec. Its founding musicians are Mark Edwards and Joanna Marsden.
Poiesis is a Greek word that means to bring something into being or to make something. It describes perfectly the act of musical performance: a never ending (re)creation of music.
Ensemble Poiesis is recognized as a public benefit corporation by the Canadian government and is registered with the Revenue Canada Agency as a charitable organization. The ensemble’s charitable mission is to advance the public’s appreciation of baroque music.
